Our Family Room

Color is what our family room is all about.  My husband loved this funky sofa fabric so it was our starting point.   We collect oil paintings and we have lots of them in our family room.  Because of this we thought we'd go for color.  I painted the walls gold and took a large dry-brush to mimic the design of bamboo leaves.


We live in a very old farm house and our fireplace in this room hasn't been updated.  I think I may put stone on it like the fireplace in Our Cozy Little Den.   I love to use empty frames.  Your imagination puts the picture in them.

I am currently looking to build a cabinet for our "huge" TV.  I would really love to close it off behind doors.

Small Home Office

Finally....I got my own office space.   A space that is mine, for my use only and I love it.  It's nice to be able to organize all my projects, folders, recipes, etc...in one place that isn't stacked in someone's homework or work papers.  So today, I thought I'd share it with all of you.

My husband, trooper that he is, built this little nook in a corner at the bottom of our stairs.  It has plenty of storage space and is centrally located.  I have four closed cabinet doors that hold all the messy stuff like phone book, office supplies, computer disk, books, etc..


I found these red boxes on sale for 80% off at Hobby Lobby and thought they'd be perfect for storage of small items, as well as the little baskets.  I bought small blackboard labels for the front of the baskets and used numbers to organize them.  I tied them on with raffia.





I have this little red book that I keep all my ideas and things I would like to try to make, read, buy, etc...I've had it for a long time so when I saw the red boxes, it gave me my color scheme.  I always have this book sitting on my desk ready to take notes.  I have a small one in my purse just in case I'm out and need to jot something down.  Guess I need to learn to use my iPhone for this, but I'm a little old school.



I also found this cute, small rooster bulletin board.  It will be perfect to put up notes...that is if I can bring myself to cover him up.  The pen and pencil caddy is really a utensil caddy I use a lot.  It is very sturdy and the small size and color are  perfect for my small desk.  Guess I'll have to get another utensil caddy.






It doesn't take a lot of space to pack a big punch and for me it is just what I needed.  Thank you for stopping by and I hope to see you Friday.

Our Cozy Little Den

Do any of you have a room in your home that you seem to gravitate to?  We do, and every morning, when the sun is rising, we're sitting in this little den, looking out through the double windows and watching.  Watching the sun hit our large oak trees and listening to the beautiful birds sing a morning song.

 I sit in this room every day to read and talk with my husband over a glass of wine after a long day.

 So, since this room is one of my favorites, I thought I'd share it with you.

The den is just off the kitchen and a very cozy space.  Here is the fireplace before the stonework.  I'm sorry it's so blurry, but you get the idea.



  
And here's the after.  The grate I use for this fireplace is an old window bar.  I found it at an old house salvage store and fell in love with the curves and the patina.  I left it exactly like I found it.




  
This is "my" chair.  I sit here everyday and it's the best spot in the den, (or so I think.)


This  old antique desk has a curved back and I wish the room were large enough to have it facing out so you could see the other side.  It's so pretty to see it on the rounded side.



The two lamps in this room are heavy cast cement.  I found them at a home decor store and because they were wired with a European plug, I was able to get them at a steal (they even came with the shades.)  


I love using mixed pillows.  Here's a sampling of the ones in the room.  Needlepoint is one of my favorite and I have several of these.
We purchased this Ric Standridge painting several years ago.  It is very large, as you can see, and so ethereal.  We always have lots of conversation with friends about it. You can purchase his art at many galleries or online at the link above.

 
Here are other hob nobs throughout the den. My welded-washer bowl that my husband gave me from Christopher Park Gallery, old porch spindles collected from salvage stores, my Santos doll from Pottery Barn that I got for a steal at the outlet, and a cast iron bull head.
