Technical Problems

Sorry everyone that there hasn't been in new post for the past week but my computer was hit by lightning and is being repaired.  I'm having to use my iPad to view on but you know it's impossible to do a new post on an iPad.  Will be back hopefully in at least a week.  Hope you all have a blessed day.

Hens & Chicks Garden

It all started when I found this really cute candle holder at a thrift store.  So many possibilities, and too neat to pass up, but I didn't need another candle holder.
Well, I brought it home and put it in the closet knowing I would find a use for it in the future and then I came across these little terracotta pots I had bought to use on a tablescape.

Then a "light bulb" came on.....  I had a large planter in my yard full of Hens and Chicks that needed to be replanted and I could use something on a small wicker table I bought for my front porch.  Maybe these little plants planted in these terracotta pots would make a cute Hens & Chicks garden....and they did.

Here's a picture of the wicker table I bought that was originally gold.  I painted it black to match all my other furniture on the porch.

I had a roll of white stripped burlap ribbon I cut into strips and glued with E6000 around the top of the pots.

....and here's the garden finished.  I love it and it goes perfectly on my front porch.

Hens and Chicks are very easy to grow...a little water is all they need and they multiply so you can give them to friends.  See the little babies hanging from the larger ones?  You just snip them off, and put on top of moist potting soil.  That's it.  The slight pink at the base of the leaves is so pretty.

I hope you have a beautiful hump day.

Beach Table

Well, we had a much needed, relaxing time at the beach last week.  And...it was so sad to have to leave the island and return to the real world, but it is always nice to pull into your driveway, see your house and know you are home.

I set a beach table to celebrate our time at the beach and all the fun we have there.  Maybe we'll go back before the end of the year, at least that's what we always say when we're leaving.

Instead of flowers for the centerpiece, I used these over-sized, fun fish.

I filled small shell bowls with seashells and put a little note in each one for every plate.  It was fun picking up the shells and looking at them and their beautiful colors and textures.

I love watching the pelicans fly over the water and dive down to get a fish.  These small pelicans for our table are salt and pepper shakers.

On the menu for the night was homemade Hushpuppies, Blackened Salmon steaks and "Special Rice."  We call it special because we use whatever we have in the kitchen in the rice which makes it "special" each time.

I'm looking forward to a new week full of challenges and surprises.  Hope to see you Wednesday.

Old Bottles & Irises

One day while exploring through the woods at my mom's house, my husband and I came across a bunch of old jars and bottles buried beneath the leaves. I was sooo excited...what a find.  I picked up as many as I could carry in my arms since  we were pretty far from her house and it was all up hill, but I'm planning on returning to the "gold mine" with something other than my arms to carry bottles.

It took lots of soaking and washing to get them clean, but finally....they were...well, almost clean.  I put them in the window in our pantry/laundry room so I could see and enjoy them when I am doing the laundry.

So, when some of my purple Irises were blooming, I thought they would be pretty in these old bottles sitting on my kitchen counter.  Irises are beautiful, big flowers and these light purple were so pretty.

Sometimes, the simple arrangements are the prettiest.  We get to enjoy each flower apart from the others.

I hope you have a super-fantastic weekend.  I'll be coming home from the beach tomorrow... so a little sad, but excited that I have a lot of new ideas to share.

Jekyll Island, GA

We're here!  Yea!!!! finally here for 10 days with nothing to do but relaxing our toes in the sand.  All four of us need this break.  We've come to Jekyll Island, Ga every year for the past 35 years.  I guess you would say it's a home away from home.
I love the smell of the salty air.

The island has a beautiful driftwood beach.  A fantastic place for seashells, driftwood and family photos.

Here are a few photos from the historic district referred to as the "Millionaire's Village."  It is named this because from the 1890's until the 1940's the island used to be owned by the wealthiest men in America...Rockefeller, J.P. Morgan, Pulitzer, Crane, Goodyear, and these are the homes they built to vacation in.  They have since been converted to upscale hotels and luxury restaurants for all of us to enjoy .

It's an amazing place and I'm glad we're finally here.  This is the hotel we eat lunch in every year...we think it's amazing that it's called Crane "cottage"!!  We love to sit out on this veranda and have a long afternoon lunch.

As you might guess from the photos, there are not a lot of people visiting the island.  It's very quiet and serene.

The old Horton House, built in 1736, is in ruins now, but so neat to see.  The island has many historical sites like this one.

It is a small island with many sites.

My Boys getting us a drink so we can sit on the pier and listen to a band.  Wish it was the Beach Boys.  Have a great Hump day and I'll talk to you again on Friday.
