Cute Little Chicks

Look what arrived a few days ago at the Post Office for ME!

Aren't they sooo cute?  Every few years we order a new batch of chicks from Meyer Hatchery. When I walked into the Post Office to pick them up you could almost hear them chirping from the parking lot and I believe all the post office employees were glad to see me. lol.

In honor of getting our new chicks, I surprised the family with a soft chicken tablescape on the porch.

The plates are Amber Karma by EURO Ceramica.  I thought they had a straw like feel to them and appropriate since we use straw in our hen house.

The Cute little dome dish on top is actually a butter dish from Home Essentials and Beyond.  I used them to hold our eggs.

For supper we had omelets, oven-browned potatoes, country ham and biscuits made in my small muffin tin.  We love the eggs from our hens.  Home-grown organic eggs have a much richer and deeper flavor than store bought eggs, and hens are fairly easy to raise.

I hope you have a blessed Monday, and I hope to see you Wednesday.  I've just put in my office at the bottom of the stairs and I'm sharing that Wednesday.

Crisp White & Blue

Rains coming this way for an entire week starting tomorrow...Yuk.  Don't get me wrong, being a gardener, I love the rain to water our veges and flowers.  But, an entire week?  Really?

I'm going to take advantage of the beautiful fresh weather and sunshine and have supper with my boys on the porch tonight.  We always like to take Friday nights and have a special supper since we are all home.  And you know me, nothing I like more than a pretty table.

The tablecloth was a shower curtain I purchased several years ago that I never used.   It has our initial in the middle and is perfect for this little table.  I love the ribbon stitched around the bottom and it's easy to wash.

I also used some of my small collection of Baccarat figurines.  I love how they reflect the light and things around them.

For the centerpiece I chose to use Irises from the garden and some of my blue and white pieces.

In the cute little boxes at each plate I put a surprise...a wrapped truffle which could be eaten now or later.   For supper we had roasted chicken, which is our favorite Friday evening meal.  I heavily saltpepper and roast for about 30 minutes until golden brown.

I also made a delicious cold pasta salad with broccoli, peppers, olives and parmesan cheese, then added a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar to finish.

Sweet ice tea, good conversation with my boys, small breeze, dinner alfresco...what more could a girl ask for?

Hope you enjoy your Monday, stay dry and I'll see you on Wednesday....

Mr. Piggy

Spring is coming and I'm very excited to get my front porch table ready for Easter.  I've been looking for a centerpiece for my little table and it was one of those things that when I saw it I would know.

Well, lo and behold, (a southern phrase I use from time to time, lol) there it was at one of my favorite antique stores, Southern Estates. I wasn't there looking for this particular item, I was really looking for some chairs, but this little piggy called my name...Susan, pick me, pick me.  So of course, I had to take him home.

I thought with a little love and care and a paint job, he would be really cute on my table.   Here he is in the before photo with his pink little ears and nose.

He even came with this cute little black board.  Perfect.  Now I can leave a message as the season changes.  I wanted him terra cotta color since this year I am using terra cotta with black and white on my porch.  I mixed a pumpkin color with a little brown.  Here is what I used.

I think he came out great!  Here are some photos with his chalk board and without.  I'll post later the Spring tablescape for this little table...so stay tuned.
