Good morning everyone. What a beautiful Monday morning here with the sunshine outside. God blesses us so much with eyes to see. Today I thought I'd share with you a few photos of the guest bedroom I've been working on.
I've wanted to have a shabby chic kind of feel to a room for a while so I decided this would be a good place to try this. There are still several things I want to add to this room like a plush throw at the foot of the bed and a white, frilly chair cover for the little chair.
Here is a close up of the Laura Ashley curtains in the room, that I love, and the round leaded window above the bed.
I want my guest to feel at home when they stay here so I put a towel bar in their room so they won't have to leave their towels in the bathroom. I also found this quaint little antique glass for water to put beside the bed.
The prints above I ordered from Ballard Designs and are on both sides of the bed. I plan on replacing the highboy with a wardrobe since this room does not have a closet but for the time being I have a three-way hook for hanging clothes and the drawers in the highboy. And last I wanted you to see the reflection from the round window you wake up to every morning. This photo doesn't give it justice, but the rainbow colors are beautiful.

So, I have been frantically trying to get some finished touches done to my guest bedroom. I am going for a shabby chic look for this room, something girly. My mother is coming to stay with us for about a week while her hardwood floors are being refinished and she can't stay in her house during this process.
One of the things in the room that I have not be able to get to is the light over the center of the bed. I want to find just the right little light and the one that is there is too plain and modern for my taste.
A few months back I was shopping in a quaint little gardening shop and saw a beautiful chandelier covered with twigs. That was what I was going to do. Cover this awful light with twigs.
I have a bush in my yard called Elaeagnus, that gets long shoots which would be perfect to cut and use. They are a nice brown color.
The shoots can come off as long as 6 feet and are very pliable. It makes it perfect for all kinds of projects.
I know they look prickly, but they are very soft. I brought them inside the kitchen to strip the large leaves off, (it was freezing outside). It made a grand mess as you can see, but the finished result was worth the mess.
I still have a few more twigs to add to completely cover the light, but couldn't wait to share it with you. Here is what it looks like over the bed.
Here are some other ideas of twigs used over lights that I found on google. Aren't they neat?

I've seen the twigs painted in all colors and they are a unique way to add interest to an otherwise boring light. Just use wire to affix them and I recommend using LED lights that do not get hot, or keep the twigs away from the bulb itself. Happy twigging.

Many of you know that I live in a 115 year old farmhouse and over the last few years I have been updating our rooms one by one. This last year I updated my master bedroom.
I had always loved dark colors, as you can see in the before photo's but now I want light and cool. I can't believe how outdated this is...lol.
I had been looking at all different kinds of color schemes on Houzz and Pinterest and decided I wanted to use gray for the walls with stressed black furniture and a touch of gold for warmth.
I chose Valspar Filtered Shade in eggshell. It looks a little blue in the photo below, but it is a true gray.
The next few photo's are some I took from Pinterest as inspiration. Aren't they pretty?
I knew I wanted to use a touch of gold and needed an inspiration starting point and that's when I found this Laura Ashley fabric. I bought enough to make two large pillow shams.
It is a beautiful linen fabric with a nice soft feel. I have a white quilt and found a beautiful Ralph Lauren duvet cover and bedskirt trimmed in black.
My dresser was a true find from a local consignment store, a Henredon dresser. All I needed to do was prime it, paint it black (I used Olympic Black Magis D58-6 in eggshell) and destressed it a little in brown. I used the hardware that was originally on it. It turned out beautiful.
I had been holding onto an old set of french doors I found in one of our barns and put them on the wall above the dresser. They were perfect.
My deer print chair and ottoman I did a post on earlier is also in my room. The color just happened to be perfect. I had a lion head stand and beautiful wall clock from Ballard I used with the chair. The wreaths in the windows I put up one Christmas and loved them, so I left them year round. I am currently in search for a pretty rug and upholstered headboard that will complete the room. I will blog to let you see what I find.
